The spring Station 9 plankton net tow had many diatoms: long chains of Thalassiosira, "curly" diatom chains, and Coscinodiscus. Dinoflagellates sampled included two types of Ceratium and the heterotroph Protoperidinium (i.e., gains energy from ingesting other organisms rather than directly from sunlight).
