Below is a montage of FlowCAM images taken at Station 12 at two depths: 20 meters and 224 meters. TOP: Two types of the dinoflagellate Ceratium were imaged (labelled "A"). Diatoms captured include chains of Thalassiosira ("B") and Chaetoceros ("C"), and Coscinodiscus ("D"). Zooplankton seen were the ciliates Tintinnid ("E") and Laboea ("F"). BOTTOM: These diatom chains were found well below the depth to which sunlight can penetrate Gulf of Maine waters. Links to various depth FlowCAM images for Station 12 are at bottom right.
Capture fragile species better than plankton nets (<<<).
