Spring's Station 5 plankton net tow was dominated by the long pennate diatom Rhizosolenia. Two species of the dinoflagellate Ceratium were also present. Diatom chains of Thalassiosira and Stephanopyxis(?) as well as colonies of Thalssionema (?) were observed. A few Coscinodiscus (diatom) cells were sampled.
