anurida   anurida dish

Blue-gray, wingless insects often float in large groups on the surface of mid-level tide pools. Anurida maritima is a marine insect that is well adapted to tide pool life. It feeds on organic matter and bits of detritus when the tide goes out. When the tide comes in, Anurida retreats to crevices using air bubbles trapped in the hairs that cover its body to breath.

Did you know...
Anurida maritima means "wingless one who goes to sea."
