The algae of the lower tide pools is dominated by Irish moss. Young kelp fronds can also be found in these pools. The kelp is crucial for providing a shade canopy over the pool as well as serving as cover from predators for the animals that might be in the pool. The pools with the greatest diversity of both plant and animal life are likely to be large, deep and closest to the water. |
