Palmaria palmata, or dulse, is a
red seaweed commonly found among the subtidal algae. Purplish
red in color, this seaweed has a broad flat blade that is
thick and leathery in texture. The occurrence of this species
becomes more frequent eastward along the coast. Dulse is
harvested commercially and in its sun-dried form can be eaten
raw or used as a flavor enhancer in salads, soups, and stirfries. |
