In late winter or spring, the opportunistic
green algae Chaetomorpha
spp. attach in large numbers to this subtidal area.
Resembling bright green string, this seaweed gets wrapped
up in the turf of the red algae. |

Leathesia difformis is a brown seaweed
often found growing in subtidal areas on top of other seaweeds
as an epiphyte. Commonly called "sea potato" or "rat brain" due
to its appearance, this hollow sac seaweed appears yellow
to light brown in color early in the year and turning a
darker brown as the season progresses. |
