The rocky shore supports an entire community of organisms known as invertebrates. We've already met some of these "spine-less" animals, like the barnacle, periwinkle, and mussel. Invertebrates do not have a spine and many, but not all, have a hard exoskeleton or shell to provide body structure. The image above illustrates various parts from six different invertebrates.
