As we approach the mid-intertidal zone, we begin to see an increase in the diversity and abundance of organisms. This zone is defined as the area between the average high tide and low tide lines on the shore. Therefore it is covered and uncovered by sea water approximately twice a day with each tide. The mid-intertidal zone and its upper limit is easily recognized by its dominant organism-the barnacle. |
